Duck Lake Vehicle Access Closed. Due to the warmer and fluctuating temperatures we’re experiencing, we have closed the gate at the south end of Duck Lake to preserve the integrity of the dike. We will monitor and re-open when the dike conditions become suitable again. Please note that the vehicle access closure for the conservation of the northern leopard frog will take place between March 15th and April 30th. Pedestrians are welcomed! Thank you!

So I guess its safe to assume that the dyke road will be closed every April from here on in due to the leopard frog migration. I have been bass fishing in April every year since the 80’s because that is the best bass fishing month but can’t anymore the last few years. I think it’s a stretch that leopard frogs numbers are going to drop if the road was left open. The last few years I have noticed that there’s fees to fish Duck Lake which is fine but our rights to fish it are being taken away. I refuse to pay the $10 fee anymore because of this, and yes I have been paying it since it’s inception. There has to be a way to allow fishermen to access the lake with safety to the migration of leopard frogs in mind. eg. speed restrictions and signs to make fishermen aware. And yes I know the lake is accessible at Sirdar, I have a boat that is a little heavy to be going up and down the hill there and being over 60 doesn’t help either. I was thinking of leaving a boat there but can’t because there’s the maximum amount of boats allowed now. I know nothing will probably change but had to say what’s on my mind and there’s lots of fisherman that feel the same way!
