Attention all CVWMA users and their fuzzy family members! We are excited to announce Tails on Trails: Leash up for Wildlife – our new initiative to help protect wildlife and wetlands, in partnership with Creston’s local pet store, Hound ‘N’ Mouser! In the coming months, while we are out on the trails and dikes conducting CVWMA activities, we will be reminding users to have their dogs on a leash and watching for those who comply. If we see you with your lovely pup on leash, we will offer you to the chance to enter a prize draw, and your furry friend will be offered a treat!

How it works:

  • Put and keep your dog on a leash as you walk/hike at CVWMA (including all of the Duck Lake area) – note that leashing your dog as you see us coming does not count!
  • Run into a friendly CVWMA staff member
  • CVWMA staff will provide you with a contest slip to enter your contact details
  • Your pup will be rewarded with treats and pets, if that’s what they’re into
  • Prizes will be drawn once a month from April to September
  • Prizes are in collaboration with Hound N’ Mouser, and there’s some neat CVWMA swag in there too!

CVWMA requires all dogs to be on leash at all times on CVWMA lands. This is for the protection of wildlife and sensitive ecosystems, and the enjoyment and safety of all users, including those who have reactive or fearful dogs who may not like being approached by off-leash dogs. Don’t forget that there are people who are fearful of dogs as well! We want our beautiful wetlands to be a safe and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy. Please also pick up after your pup – sadly, there is no poop fairy! Lastly, we’d like to send a big shout out to Gen at Hound ‘N’ Mouser for her support with this program! Good luck in the contest, and we’ll see you out there!
